Corn for Wet Milling

Efficiently extracting starch from corn depends on many factors. As a provider of Premium Grains SM to the corn wet milling industry, CGB can increase the efficiency of your operation by supplying a more consistent raw material. Our experience indicates that prior to the milling process, three main factors affect the extractability of starch: genetics, growing conditions, and handling.

Genetics
Some corn hybrids are genetically disposed to producing higher starch content than others. Similarly, some hybrids require less steeping time for the starch and protein to separate. Through our close working relationships with seed companies and through laboratory testing of harvest samples, the better hybrids are selected for our Premium Grains SM programs for wet milling. However, genetic potential is not the only consideration for better starch extraction; it is just the beginning.

Growing Conditions
Growing conditions vary by location each year. CGB originates grain through more than 60 elevators primarily located on the Mississippi, Ohio, and Illinois Rivers. From year to year, corn best suited for wet milling can come from almost anywhere. Through our extensive sampling and testing protocol, we compile data on each year's crop. From that information, we are able to assess what areas produced the highest quality corn and select that corn for our Premium Grains SM programs.

Handling
Just because corn has the right genetic disposition to create higher levels of starch or just because it was grown under the best possible conditions still doesn't mean that you are going to be successful in efficiently extracting that starch. By avoiding corn that was high-temperature dried and excluding corn with significant levels of stress cracks, CGB completes the raw materials selection process for Premium Grains SM .

Results
We can confidently supply your facility with Premium Grains SM that will steep more consistently, create energy savings, improve operational efficiency, and yield more starch.

Commitment
CGB is working closely with seed companies, leading industry scientists, academics, and progressively minded milling companies to improve the extractability of starch from corn shipments. Since every wet mill has different processes, equipment, and objectives, communication between the raw material supplier and the wet miller is essential. We look forward to customizing a Premium Grains SM program to fit your operation.

The Premium Grains Advantage
Farming is a complex and globally competitive business. Advances in production, seed, and biotechnology are accelerating the pace of change and forcing us all to change the ways we think about farming. We believe it is important that our Premium Grains SM programs encourage the American farmer to strive for continuous improvement.

Producers participating in our Premium Grains SM programs understand that they collect more than a premium for growing better, high quality grains. Our producers take great pride in growing a quality product and benefit from knowing that their efforts are valued by an end-user.
